Avon Old Farms School Celebrates Opening of New Ice Rink

Avon Old Farms School recently celebrated the opening of the newly renovated Jennings Fairchild Ice Rink, home to the one of the premier independent school hockey programs in New England. AOS’s design for the renovation creates a dynamic environment for players and fans and includes façade improvements and graphics, new locker rooms, new spectator stands for 200, standing room for 150, new finishes, and new lighting.

Avon’s unique Cotswold and Tudor-inspired 1927 campus is the creation of the school’s founder, Theodate Pope Riddle, Connecticut’s first licensed female architect. Jennings Rink is the building that most clearly deviates from this aesthetic and Avon selected AOS to develop an architectural expression that fits the building more comfortably in the campus fabric.

The renovation is Phase 1 of planned building improvements. Phase 2 will include a gathering and reception area for recruiting and alumni events.
