Friends Select School Construction Progress
Construction is underway at Friends Select School where a full renovation of the Blauvelt Theater will help to transform the most heavily used space in the school into a modern, flexible facility. Relatively untouched since its original completion in 1967, Blauvelt Theater has served as the cornerstone and gathering center of the school. The theater will receive a full face lift to better support events such as school assemblies, student performances and plays, awards ceremonies, outside speakers, and faculty professional development activities.
Renovations to the space will include new seating and improved sight lines and balcony views; a refurbished, larger stage area; new energy efficient mechanical and lighting systems; ceiling and wall panels to help provide better theater acoustics; an updated and advanced AV, sound, and lighting system; and improved accessibility to seating and the stage. Construction will continue through the summer and be complete in time for occupancy in the fall semester.
Several projects identified in our Master Plan for Friends Select School have been completed. These include renovations to Pre-K and Kindergarten Classrooms, a new Exercise Room, and the Baily Staircase Extension. Future projects include a black-box theater and renovations to the natatorium.
