Richards Medical Research Labs – Phase 3
We are currently completing construction documents for Phase 3 renovations to Louis Kahn’s Richards Medical Research Laboratory. The building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2009. Earlier phases of the project were completed in late 2015 and have been widely praised by the University and building users. The renovation project has been the subject of several articles including Modern Reboot in the February 2017 issue of Architectural Record.
Phase 3 work continues the preservation and interior design standards established in the earlier phases. The $24 million project includes replacement of the exterior glazing, restoration of the existing stainless steel window frames, and masonry façade repairs on two of the complex’s four towers. In addition to medical research office space, the newly renovated areas will include a 50-person classroom, break rooms, lounges, and two 25-person seminar rooms. Construction is scheduled to start in the summer of 2017.
