Shawn has been invited by his alma mater to participate in the 18th Annual Historic Preservation Symposium, organized by the Center for Heritage Conservation. The symposium, to be held March 3-4, will be held at the Geren Auditorium in the College of Architecture. The event will be focused on "Heritage, Conservation, & Archaeology." Shawn's presentation will highlight our work at Ohkay Owingeh, address the technical and philosophical challenges of vernacular preservation, and advocate for the flexibility for Native American tribes to self-determine preservation approaches in line with their cultural values.

Also speaking at the symposium:

  • John Stubbs, Director of Preservation Studies Program, Tulane University

  • Colleen Hanratty, Blue Creek Archaeological Project

  • Peter Gavette, Archaeologist, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, NPS

  • Justin Parkoff, Texas A&M Conservation Research Laboratory
