The Reed Arts Center project includes two additions to the school’s existing auditorium: a black box theater and a wing to house the art and music departments. The black box theater provides flexible seating for an audience of 200 people and features state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems. The theater’s accessible entrance foyer provides access to the renovated foyer of the auditorium. This project also included a full renovation of the auditorium, reconfiguration of the stage to accommodate an orchestra pit, and new fixed seating.
The art and music wing is sited to create a small courtyard at the end of an important circulation path that traverses the main green. This space provides a welcoming front lawn for the entrance to the new wing that is ideal for relaxing and socializing. The project includes music practice rooms, a band rehearsal room, a choral rehearsal room, art studios, a photography lab, and faculty offices. A two-story, sky-lit gallery for student art exhibits connects the new wing to the auditorium and to a small museum on the lower level.
The Academy Building, the main administration building, was completely renovated to accommodate new office suites, updated classrooms, and a browsing library. The Arms Building is one of the original classroom buildings. In addition to renovating the classrooms, a new student center, mail room and bookstore were created in the lower level. An accessible entrance at this level leads to an outdoor plaza where students can gather. Our firm also designed an addition and renovation to the Dining Hall. This expansion substantially increased the seating in the first floor dining room and the lower level café, which now opens to a new outdoor dining terrace.
