Scanlan Campus Center Grand Opening at the Loomis Chaffee School

Loomis Chaffee School students, administrators and alumni celebrated the grand opening of the Scanlan Campus Center this Fall with building tours, a dedication ceremony and a lively dinner in the building’s three new dining halls. Many project donors and their families attended the dedication. AOS’ design for the campus center "extends the graciousness and elegance of the original design" of the campus, said Head of School Sheila Culbert, and addresses the needs of the present and future learning community. The new Campus Center combines a revitalization of the 1914 campus landmark Loomis Hall with a 16,000 sf addition to support student activities and expanded dining that accommodates the entire community for family-style meals. The new and old structures strengthen each other’s uniqueness and combine to create a vibrant setting for dining, teaching and learning, gathering, and student organizations.

The Campus Center provides seating for 840 in three dining halls with generous views in three directions, a new servery and café, a bright and inviting bookstore, and student and faculty lounges with moveable seating. The former staff quarters of historic Loomis Hall were transformed into a loft-like space for student organizations; an open stair with views to the playing fields leads from the first floor to the glass-walled lower level, which includes a state-of-the-art maker space and classrooms.
