College Housing Creates Space for Student Community
Following the completion of McCartney Street Phase 1 in 2020, AOS Architects worked with Lafayette College to design Phase 2. Phase 2 is a mixed-use building that further supports the needs of the growing college and honors the character of the surrounding neighborhood.
The 4-story building includes commercial space at street level and 166 beds in a variety of residential units above. The brick and cast stone construction aesthetically ties both phases together with the existing neighborhood on one side and the Lafayette campus on the other.
The residence hall houses suite-style bedroom apartments with private baths, kitchens, and living spaces. Common study rooms, lounges, laundries, and a game room are located to provide a range of opportunities to support the community and build fellowship among the students. The building mass forms two landscaped courtyards that front onto McCartney Street and provide usable outdoor spaces. Phase 2 received LEED Silver certification.
