AOS participates in Bronze Casting Workshop for YouthBuild Renovation

The AOS team recently participated in a bronze casting workshop held by Legacy Atelier, the local bronze-work fabricator for the YouthBuild Charter School adaptive reuse and renovation project.
In addition to the AOS design team, the event was attended by YouthBuild administration, staff, project supporters, and students. The Legacy Atelier artisans showed the fabrication of the new decorative bronze acanthus leaves, recreating existing pieces which were previously removed from the facility’s original 1930’s façade and are being restored as part of the project's renovation efforts.
The artisans demonstrated each step of the bronze casting process, starting with using a 2D drawing to develop and print a 3D model for mold making and wax casting, to pouring the molten metal, and finally finishing with the process of welding the various bronze elements together and polishing the final product.
The bronze acanthus leaves will soon be installed at the YouthBuild Charter School Facility on North Broad Street, which is currently under construction. Work is expected to be completed this summer.
