AOS Projects featured at SCUP National Conference

Every year, SCUP’s annual conference connects higher education professionals, as well as architects and planners, from across the country to share integrated campus planning strategies that create sustainable planning and design solutions.

AOS is excited that two of our projects will be toured this year as examples of successful historic renovation and preservation projects on the University of Pennsylvania campus; Richards Medical Lab and College Hall.

The renovation and restoration of Richards Medical Lab, an iconic Louis Kahn designed building on the University of Pennsylvania’s campus, was completed in 2018. This tour will showcase the Richards restoration and renovation project by expanding upon its design and preservation standards, exterior glazing replacement, mechanical and electrical systems, and removal of wet labs for conversion into dry lab space. The tour is scheduled for tomorrow July 24th.

The tour of College Hall took place yesterday afternoon and included a walk through almost completed parts of the West Wing renovations and highlight restored interiors and exteriors; including new, historically appropriate and energy efficient systems and infrastructure; repair of roof and windows, masonry walls, and stone cladding; renovation and upgrades to interior suites, offices, and classrooms as well as updated accessibility options. AOS is currently completing the renovations to and restoration of College Hall’s West Wing, with final completion set for the end of the summer.

Both of these tours will touch on the important topics of renovating historically significant buildings on college and university campuses as well as the incorporation of current accessibility and sustainability measures into these historic structures.

Visit the SCUP website for more information about these tours and the other programs at the SCUP 2024 Annual Conference. Events continue through this Thursday.
