AOS Receives Multiple Design and Preservation Awards

Our projects for the Richards Medical Research Laboratory, Philadelphia Metropolitan Opera House, and Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church have been recognized with multiple awards.

Our work for the Philadelphia Metropolitan Opera House has been awarded with a 2019 Preservation Achievement Grand Jury Award from the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia. The project has also been named Project of the Year by the ACE Mentor Program of Greater Philadelphia. AOS led the complete restoration of the building and its adaptive use as a live music venue, transforming the formerly dilapidated building into a magnificently rehabilitated, contemporary city landmark.

The Richards Medical Research Laboratory project was also selected for a 2019 Preservation Achievement Grand Jury Award. Originally designed by renowned architect Louis I. Kahn, the Richards Medical Research Laboratory is a building with enormous architectural significance. AOS designed medical research space throughout the Richards building, repurposing the building to better serve the needs of modern medical research.

Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church: Concept Design for Museum & Addition received an Outstanding Team Award from the Community Design Collaborative. For over a decade, we have provided long-term planning for restoration and expansion of the church’s facilities. A National Historic Landmark, Mother Bethel rests on the oldest parcel of land in the United States owned continuously by African-Americans and remains an influential part of the city’s African-American community.

AOS is honored to be recognized for our design excellence, outstanding community service, and dedication to historic preservation.
