Ground Breaking Ceremony at Stenton Park
The City of Philadelphia recently hosted a Ground Breaking Ceremony at Stenton Park. The Cememony was held to celebrate the start of construction for new and improved recreation facilities. Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell, Councilwoman Cindy Bass, Senator Sharif Street, and community members participated in the ceremony.

When completed, the new $2.8 million Stenton Park Recreation Center will have two large multi-purpose rooms, a new kitchen, office space, storage for the Football Club, and new, fully accessible restrooms. The building has been designed to be open and light-filled; large windows open from the public spaces to view the new playground and spray ground. The playground will have six unique play structures including a large, custom design space net climbing structure. The entire facility is designed to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, and includes new lighting, benches, and plantings.
The new building and site are designed to be environmentally sustainable. Special features will include an energy efficient mechanical system and lighting, and a sub-surface infiltration basin and a green roof, both of which will limit storm water runoff from the site.
