Renewing College Hall

Earlier this year AOS began designing the renovations and restoration of College Hall at the University of Pennsylvania. Originally designed in 1873 by Thomas Webb Richards, the building has taken on many functions over the years, but is currently home to the University President’s and Provost’s offices, as well as the History Department, Dean of the College, Pool Classrooms, and other departments.

The work is focused on the West Wing of the building and includes replacement of the deteriorated serpentine stone and consolidation of the masonry back-up walls (a project started in 1990 but never completed.) The historic windows will be restored or replaced, the roof will be replaced, and the departments located in the West Wing will be renovated. All new MEP systems will be installed in the renovated areas.

Kelly Maiello Architects have primary responsibility for the design and documentation of the exterior envelope. The remainder of our project team includes Keast & Hood, H. F. Lenz, Metropolitan Acoustics, Envision, Shen Milsom Wilke, RWDI, and VDA.
