Scanlan Campus Center wins ICAA Bulfinch Award

The Scanlan Campus Center at Loomis Chaffee School was recently recognized for its design achievements with an ICAA Bulfinch Award. Each year, the New England Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) Bulfinch Awards recognizes firms from across the country who have completed projects that show a commitment to promoting classical architecture and traditional design excellence in the New England Region.

The Scanlan Campus Center, the winner of the Institutional Category of this year’s awards, consists of the extensive renovation of and a major new addition to the School’s existing 1913 Loomis Hall. While existing spaces, such as the former dining room and attic staff quarters, were renovated to accommodate new programming while respecting their historic context, the focal point of the project is the new 500-seat Dining Hall addition. The new Scanlan Campus Center houses the new Dining Hall, renovated Kitchen and Servery, new Bookstore, multipurpose study and recreation spaces, and a state-of-the-art Maker Space.

The project was also featured in the October 2022 issue of Traditional Building Magazine. The article highlights how Scanlan’s traditional design both compliments the existing Georgian Revival architecture on campus and adapts to contemporary student needs. Read the full article here.
