Visitor Pavilion & Workshop at Eastern State Penitentiary

AOS recently celebrated the grand opening of the new Visitor Pavilion at Eastern State Penitentiary, which provides sheltered gathering space for visitors arriving for tours of the historic prison. The pavilion's steel and wood butterfly roof structure stands as a counterpoint to the original massive stone structure.

In addition, Principal Sam Olshin, FAIA recently collaborated with Brian Wentz, CDT, PE of Keast & Hood, Ben Foster, PE of Cedarville Engineers, and Dan Organ of Pullman Services, on a masonry restoration workshop led by Liz Trumbull of Eastern State Penitentiary. This event, hosted in conjunction with PowerCorpsPHL and Philadelphia’s Rebuild initiative, supported the Penitentiary's ongoing efforts to provide paid preservation training for formerly incarcerated young people interested in learning a meaningful trade.
