YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School Project Breaks Ground

The AOS team was on hand April 12 for the ground breaking ceremony at YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School. We are thrilled to be working with YouthBuild to renovate the former PECO showroom and regional office building on North Broad Street.

Local lawmakers including Representative Malcolm Kenyatta, Senator Anthony Williams, and Secretary Akbar Hossain also joined YouthBuild students, staff and school leadership at the ceremony to commemorate this project milestone.

“We are going to have at this location, a place of hope, a place of opportunity and a place of love. And that’s what our community deserves,” said Martin Brigham, former board chair.

YouthBuild Philly currently enrolls 225 students between the ages of 18 and 21. The School’s new facility will have a dedicated training space for each of the school’s workforce development programs, flexible classrooms, administrative space, and a central tiered seating staircase that will serve as a gathering place for the school to come together. A rooftop terrace is intended to provide ample space for outdoor learning, student gathering, and sustainability education. The facility is set to be completed in summer of 2024.

The AOS project team includes Principals Sam Olshin and Paul Avazier, and Project Designer Eric Minton. Fils “Ira” Iragena also supported the design of the project; Ira is a YouthBuild graduate and is currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Architecture at the Community College of Philadelphia. The project’s design team also includes Larsen & Landis Structural Engineers, Mark Ulrick Engineers Inc., BEAM Ltd., Acentech, and Bohler Engineering. Aegis Property Group represents the school, while P. Agnes Construction is the construction manager.
